With or Without Foil
Baking a potato on the grill with a foil covering requires around 30 to 45 minutes. You can test whether they are done by sticking a toothpick inside. To get a crispy skin, remove the foil after the first 20 to 30 minutes and put it on the grill to bake.
If you want to add some flavor to the potato, put some oil and spices on the aluminum foil before wrapping it up. Make a few holes on the potato with a fork. The combination of the heat and the oil will move the flavor around the potato.
Without an aluminum foil, it takes roughly 10 to 15 minutes to bake a potato.
Whole or Sliced
For a fast cooking, you can slice up the potatoes in pieces, but large enough so that they don’t fall through the grill and get ruined. Sliced potato pieces can be baked in the open grill, or made into small packets of aluminum foil with oil and herbs, salt and pepper to season.
Small pieces of potatoes, if cooked on open grill without foil coverings need a careful eye. Sliced potatoes are cooked quickly and burn easily, and need to be removed within 5 to 10 minutes.
Besides, small slices of potatoes can also be marinated with oil and seasoning and grilled by putting them on skewers.
With or without Skin
When cooking with the potato skin on, they need to be washed carefully to remove any trace of dirt or soil. Dry them with a towel and poke some holes in the potatoes before baking. Potato skins are good for the health, and they carry an extra flavor.
Taking the Short Way
The shortest way to grill potatoes is to cut them in pieces, and boil them for approximately 10 minutes. This way, baking the boiled potatoes on a grill will only take 5 minutes.
It’s very easy to be adventurous around potatoes and a grill; there are still many more recipes to invent.
